In the heart of the Yorkshire Dales lies Asygarth Falls Station. Opened in  1877, the stations busiest times were during the first and second world wars. The beautiful Victorian themed station was however not mainly used for passenger services, but freight. Helping the people of the dales get by, and ensuring industry and farming in the area ran smoothly. 

 In 2011 a group of volunteers decided to save the station, lovingly restoring it to it's former glory. Passenger services ceased operation in 1954, and sadly the tracks of service were taken up in 1964. 

During the winter months the group prepare the site for use in the Spring and summer, often leading school group around the site to aid in a social history perspective and horticultural understanding. 

The signal pen, waiting room, goods shed and original coal hut have all been lovingly restored. The volunteers were busy utiliszing their various skills when I arrived, from repairing and restoring to using old crafts to make a fence for the site. 

The Asygarth model railway group who donated a 28 foot exact replica of how the station looked in the 1930s. This beautiful model a reminder of the glory of yesteryear sits in restored waiting room, with floods of light hitting the lovingly crafted tracks. 

Beautiful signs have been donated to the site in order to complete a gallery and social history museum for the station. The signs are a reminder of the craft that went into simple objects, compared to our now throw away culture.  

Each week the volunteers meet, working passionately to restore the original features of the railway. The team is diverse, made up of engineers, builders, horticulturists, ex railway workers and enthusiasts.
